Wade Belak: Someone will 'kill' Avery

Slam! Sports is reporting that Maple Leafs enforcer Wade Belak thinks that if Sean Avery keeps up his antics someone will kill him...

"...Citing Avery's pre-game tomfoolery Saturday night as yet another example of why the instigator rule should be scuttled, Belak warns that the New York Rangers agitator is going to pay the price for his antics.

'He's pissing guys off,' Belak said yesterday. 'He'll bring harm to himself and not too many guys around the league are going to be sad to see it.

'If he keeps this up, someone is going to kill him. One day he's going to say something the wrong way and he'll be clubbed...

...'It's ridiculous. If (Avery) ever starts chirping about my family like that, he'll get a stick over the head.' "

...who is Wade Belak and why is the Canadian media giving this guy any attention.

...I guess Belak doesn't watch much hockey. If he did, he would see the scoring and play making ability Avery showcases every night.

...I don't think Belak watched the incident before the game either, because if he did he would have seen Jason Blake start the whole thing by bumping into Avery then Darcy Tucker hold the blade of his slick up to Avery's face.

...and when did hockey players become so sensitive. Oh, no Avery made fun of my family and now I'm upset. Get over it.

Avery made a comment about Jason Blake's family and Blake's cancer. That's what set off the incident and that's why some people are very angry at Avery (including at least one member of the New York Rangers who was disgusted with what Avery said)

That information isn't correct. A Toronto sports radio commentator said that an unnamed Ranger told him that Avery said something about Blake's cancer. Avery is now suing the commentator for liable. Sounds more like a bitter Leafs fan upset that the Ranger's came into town and beat them during Hall of Fame weekend for their first win on the road.

Avery has also been identified in the past making a racial comment on George Laraque (calling him a monkey, which Avery again denied)

and for making a comment about french players:

But hey, if you want to believe that Avery didn't say anything go ahead. His track record seems to indicate that he says and does things that are at best borderline.

Looks like Avery is getting under your skin also.

If Avery made comments about Blake's cancer obviously that would be completely inappropriate. I had lunch with a friend of mine who happens to be an Islander fan and he told me about the alleged cancer comments. I don't know where the info came from, but I always find it kind of curious that Islander fans always have the inside info when it comes to Ranger players. Anyway, I will say this the Rangers are a better hockey team when Avery is in the lineup.
