Graves #9 to be Retired Next Year

We all got a great surprise last night when Brian Leetch announced that Adam Graves #9 will be retired next year...

Steve Zipay at Newsday has a recap on the announcement...

"Graves, who had no idea that the tribute was coming, hugged Leetch and still was in shock as he walked off the ice. In the 1993-94 season (his best in his 10-year Rangers tenure), Graves, now a special assistant for prospect development and community relations with the club, scored 52 goals to set the club record at the time...

...Graves, who won a Cup in 1989-90 with Edmonton, is third with 280 goals and 10th with 507 points in Rangers history."

...the look on Graves face when Leetch made the announcement was priceless.

...I always wondered if the Rangers were going to retire Graves' number. I had my doubts only because Richter and Leetch were home grown guys and Messier is..well...Messier. Graves to me just seemed notch below those three because of those reasons. But I do feel it is much deserved.
