Suprise Start for Valiquette Tonight

According to John Dellapina at The Blueshirts Blog, Stephen Valiquette will be getting the start tonight against the Vancouver Canucks...

"Tom Renney seemingly has deployed Steve Valiquette as much to stop the rest of the Rangers from playing carelessly as to stop the puck. And tonight at Vancouver, the coach will go to the No. 2 goalie in another such attempt.

Of course, Henrik Lundqvist hardly distinguished himself in last night’s 4-3 loss to Calgary. However, more often than not over the last three seasons, Renney has relied upon Lundqvist’s competitiveness to fuel a big bounce-back performance after games like that.

Not this time.

Looking to tighten up the Rangers’ team defense - which did plenty of mindless running around at Calgary - Renney will turn to Valiquette."

...wow this is shocking. Renney is really rolling the dice here. Not sure I agree with the move. Can't imagine this went over too well with Lundqvist.

...Valiquette is 2-2-1 with a 2.68 GAA and a .903 save % so far this year. I actually thought his numbers were worse than that, but it still doesn't make me feel good about this move.

Bring up Montoya. Both Ranger goalies suck right now.
