Fried Fish Sticks

Last night the New York Rangers (35-24-9) defeated the New York Islanders (32-30-7) by a score of 4-1. Scott Gomez deflected a shot past Wade Dubielewicz early in the third period, and the Rangers earned a split of the home-and-home series against the Islanders. The Rangers are now 8-0-3 in their last 11. Brendan Shanahan scored a breakaway goal just 1:29 in during a delayed Islanders penalty, and Sean Avery built the Rangers’ lead to 2-0 later in the first period when he was left open in the slot. Avery sealed it with an empty-net goal with 57.8 seconds remaining. Henrik Lundqvist bounced back from Tuesday’s loss with a 26-save effort. The Rangers jumped over Boston into sixth place in the Eastern Conference, with the Bruins holding a game in hand. For a full recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

...what a great night for the Rangers and Ranger fans. Not only did we gain 3 out of 4 points against the Islanders, we moved into sixth place with Boston losing, and with Pittsburgh's loss, we are only four points out of the top spot in the conference with a game in hand. NICE!!!!

...great bounce back game for Lundqvist last night. He bailed the team out in the second period when the Islanders turned it up a notch. That was the first time in a while Lundqvist stepped it up when needed. I watched Lundqvist's post game interview and he said something I found very interesting. He said before yesterday's game that Benoit Allaire showed him his number's for the entire year and that he was only one win away from 30, which would make him only the 2nd goalie ever to start his career with three 30 win seasons. Lundqvist said this allowed him to see that overall this year he had played very well and that his recent struggles weren't indicative of his play all season. It seemed like this talk with Allaire really restored Lundqvist's confidence in himself. It obviously worked last night. Let's see how it plays out for the rest of the year.

...Um Glen, can we sign Avery now. Please.

...how great is Drury. The guy didn't even score last night and he made a huge impression on the game. His work on the 5 on 3 penalty kill was a thing of beauty. Blocking shots, not allowing the Islanders to gain the offensive zone and diving to clear the puck. With the Rangers ahead by only one goal at the time, Drury's play on the penalty kill was one of the main reasons we won the game.

...our defense stepped it up offensively last night as Malik and Staal made great plays throwing the puck towards the net leading to two defections. Tyutin also had an assist on Shanahan's goal. I thought Backman looked a little more comfortable last night. He did have a couple of turnovers, but definitely looked more confident.

...couple of days off then a huge game against Boston on Sunday afternoon.
