Gionta Injured

Tom Gulitti, Devils beat writer at The Record, writes on his blog Fire & Ice...

"...it appears Gionta did something to his left leg or foot about 1:10 into the third period (his first shift of the period). He stuck out his left leg along the right wing half boards in the Rangers' zone and accidentally tripped Sean Avery, who was skating backward. Gionta went immediately to the bench after that, but skated slowly to get there.

Gionta did not take a shift for nearly seven minutes before coming back for only one more shift and then shutting it down for the final 10:58...

... Devils coach Brent Sutter said after the game that he did not know what happened to Gionta, but said 'He'll be fine.'"

...if Gionta has to miss any games that would be a huge blow to the Devils already anemic offense. Although, I'd rather he be fine so that we can beat them at full strength.

...I love that he hurt himself tripping, of all people, Avery. Even when he's not trying he pisses the other team off.
