Therrien on Malkin Slew-Foot

Scott Burnside at ESPN.com has Penguins Head Coach Mechelle Therien's thoughts on Malkin's slew-foot on Paul Mara...

On Friday, Therrien described it as a heat of the moment thing.

"That's the way he is. He likes to win. He wants to compete," Therrien said of Malkin.

"It's not a spearing like Avery did on Fleury," Therrien said, referring to an incident at the end of Game 2 in which Rangers agitator Sean Avery appeared to stick Fleury in the back of the legs. "This was just a trip."

...if Avery would have slew-footed anyone on the Penguins team Therrien would have lost his mind. He even brings up Avery's name when questioned about Malkin's slew-foot. And by the way Therrien, Avery was slashed in the back of the legs by Fleury first.

...I never really had much of an opinion on Therrien before the series, but he is a complete cry baby. He's complained from the start of the series, whaa Renney is talking to the refs about Crosby, Whaa Shanahan is in the crease, whaa its Avery's fault that Malkin is slew-footing. Shut up and worry about your team losing their composure at the end of Game 4.
