Malone Instead of Hossa and Shanahan Wants 1 More Year

Jim Matheson at the Edmonton Journal writes...

"The New York Rangers might be better served to go after Malone than Hossa because he's a cheaper, grinding, cycling-type winger, which they could use if Jagr comes back to play with youngster Brandon Dubinsky. That would give them an extremely strong line."

...Malone had 27 goals and 24 assists with a +14 in the regular season and 6 goals and 10 assists and a +4 in 20 post season games.

...6'-4", 224 lbs, not a bad option for a team full of undersized wingers.

Matheson also reports this on Brendan Shanahan...

"Brendan Shanahan, surely a first-ballot Hall of Famer, wants to play another year, but it was pretty obvious his lack of foot speed in today's racehorse game is a killer. And he's never been one to get those Dave Andreychuk park-yourself-in-front-of-the-net tips, as one reporter suggested. He's a shooter. If he does quit he can write his own ticket with the NHLPA, or maybe the league office, or go into training to be an NHL GM."

...I'm all for Shanahan playing another year, as long as it's for another team.

Agreed. I love Malone's size. At his lower asking price I think Sather should make a run for him.

I think you might see the rangers sign both Hossa and malone.

Hossa in place of shanny as a sniper
Malone in place of Avery for grit and some scoring

Im not saying I approve of this but its def. possible
