Top Ten Most Important People in Rangers' History: # 5 Jaromir Jagr

Greg Caggiano at The Bleacher Report continues his 10-part series counting down the top ten most important people in Rangers' History with #5 Jaromir Jagr.

...i can see plenty of old timers being upset with Jagr being ranked ahead of Giacomin and Gilbert, but I actually think Caggiano is right on. Before Jagr came to the Rangers, the organization was the laughing stock of the league. Since his arrival, he has turned us into a legitimate force after three straight seasons in the playoffs.

...Jagr is by far the biggest reason this franchise has turned around and absolutely deserves to be in the Top 5.

3 seasons should not get you into the top 5. Gilbert is the all time points leader for the Rangers Jagr has played 3 seasons. I think some people are celebrating the 4th of July a little early

could not disagree any more...
you are both the two typical gay ranger fans that do not know jacked shit about hockey. jags does not belong in the top 15 or 20 let alone 5. he onlyskates when he has the puck doesnt play any d and your saying hes taken us far three times hhaha i dont really consider swept in the first and losing not close in the second round too far, he plays like a bitch doesnt deserve the C or even to be on the team...his 3 years in new york have been a joke....as far as the rangers being the laughing stock of the league that was only for about two years and the rangers have turned it around is certainly not because of jags, its the opposite bring in hard working young guys!!

Wow. I don't know where to start after that. The list is the top 10 most important people in Rangers history. Not the top ten best players in Rangers history.

Were Giacomin and Gilbert better Rangers than Jagr of course. But neither one dragged them out of the embarrassment that Jagr did. And by the way, Mr. Johnny come lately, it was at least five years not two years of being a laughing stock.

Sure we got swept in the first round against the Devils, but after eight straight years of not being in the playoffs it meant a lot to just be there. Since Jagr's arrival we have become a team that is expected to be in the playoffs not one hoping to get in.

Does Jagr dog it sure. But if not for his 54 goal season in 2006 and then the nice playoff run in 2007 (which Jagr was a huge part of), there's no Gomez, no Drury and no positive vibe by the Garden faithful. Is Jagr a Top 10 Ranger of all time? No. But is he a Top 5 most important players in Rangers history. Absolutely.
