Rangers Get Zherdev & Fritsche for Tyutin & Backman

Geez, I walk away from the computer for two seconds.

Newyorkrangers.com reports...

"New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forwards Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defensemen Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman."

Reaction from Rangers Report, Blue Notes, & Blueshirt Bulletin.

Also, Dave Molinari at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Brooks Orpik has re-signed with the Penguins. While another potential target defenseman Ron Hainsey signed with the Atlanta Thrashers.

...i actually like the move. We needed a scoring winger and some cap space, and this trade gives us both. Plus we got younger.

...not sure what Sather is going to do with the extra money. Jagr? Sundin? both? Plus two d-spots just opened up. There's really not much left out there as far as free agent defensemen. Maybe they give Pock and Hutchinson a chance. Man our d will be solid offensively, but not very physical.
