Redden Back Where He Started, Sort Of

Steve Zipay at Newsday looks at Wade Redden's journey back to New York where he was first drafted by the Islanders in 1995...

In 1995, the Islanders made defenseman Wade Redden the second overall pick in the NHL entry draft, but he never played a game for them.

Redden went back to his junior team in Brandon, Manitoba, and on Jan. 3, 1996, was part of a three-team trade between the Islanders, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators in which the Islanders received Bryan Berard - the No. 1 draft pick - and Martin Straka.

Now 31, Redden's career has brought him to New York, and oddly enough, a space next to Straka's former locker at the Madison Square Garden Training Center. "Is that right?" he said yesterday. "That was a long time ago."

...Redden scares me. He seems like a player who could get bothered by the New York media. And if he starts out poorly and shuns the media, it could get ugly.
