Are the Rangers Better Off Without Gomez?

The Rangers are now 3-0 since Scott Gomez went down with an ankle injury, which begs the question - Are the Rangers better off without him?

In the five games prior to Gomez' injury the Rangers were sputtering going 1-3-1 with no cohesion between linemates.

Now in the three games minus Gomez, Renney has found line combinations with chemistry and the team is undefeated.

But to come up with a truly educated response we have to look inside this three game Gomezless winning streak. First we can throw out the 5-2 win against an under-manned Devils team that the Hartford Wolfpack could have beaten, especially with Kevin Weekes in goal for New Jersey.

In the other two games against Boston and Ottawa, the Rangers scored a grand total of three regulation goals and were a combined 0 for 9 on the power play with a short handed goal against.

Not exactly firing on all cylinders offensively. Gomez' absence is most apparent with the team's inability to carry the puck into the offensive zone on the power play.

So, despite the 3-0 record I don't think the Rangers are better off without Gomez. However, if the Rangers get a couple more wins without him then struggle when he comes back I might have to re-evaluate my thinking.
