Now Zherdev A Bargain

Last week CBS Sportsline did a feature on the biggest bargains in the NHL with Brandon Dubinsky making the list. This week John Grigg at The Hockey News has his own list and Nikolai Zherdev makes the cut...

5. Nikolai Zherdev, Right Wing, New York Rangers – $2.5 million
Zherdev has cooled somewhat of late (three points in his past five games), but he leads the Rangers in points with 25 and has had a number of highlight-reel plays this season. With Scott Gomez and Chris Drury disappointing so far, Zherdev has become the focal point of New York’s attack.

...when did $2.5 million become a bargain? Doesn't Grigg know we're in a recession.

...unfortunately with Zherdev and Dubinsky's relatively inexpensive contracts coming to an end this summer and rumors that the salary cap is not going to increase next year, the Rangers are going to find it very difficult to re-sign both these players.
