What are we talking about?...Practice?

Looks like Allen Iverson isn't the only one who isn't a big fan of practice, as for the second time this week the Rangers will not be practicing following an awful loss, reports Sam Weinman at The Rangers Report.

...first we're not practicing the 22nd ranked power play, now we're not even practicing at all. Renney needed to send a message today that the team's recent play is unacceptable, forced them back to the practice rink and had them do "Herbies" all morning.

...i understand it was a scheduled day off and we've had a hectic schedule to start the season, but considering the circumstance they should have been on the ice this morning.

NYRFan - I am a huge fan of your blog, I come here every single day to read all about the Rangers, and I am grateful for the work that you put into it in order to make it easy for regular fans like myself to get all Ranger related news in one spot.

That being said, for someone who is not an analyst or even a beat reporter to say that Renney definitely should have done this or done that does not make sense. Yes, the Rangers came out flat early last night and got scored on early, but the team had just won a spirited game the night before, then had to fly to Montreal right after the game Wednesday night. The team has also played the most games in the league, 3 more than every other team in the Eastern Conference.

The Rangers are a good team, but a combination of being fatigued and some Canadiens having the individual games of their lives contributed to that disaster last night. What good would it do to drive them even more into the ground? After playing 2 hard fought games and a round trip flight to Montreal, I think a day off is more beneficial to the team to clear their heads before getting back to practice tomorrow to focus on Calgary.

Like I said, I am very grateful for what you do with the blog, but I really don't think that anyone who is not associated with the team is qualified to make statements that question the head coach and his decisions.

Take it easy King Byrne....you do not need to be associated with the team to have an opinion.
However, I do agree that punishing the team because of a bad game is not the way to go. While the Rangers have not exactly been playing great hockey, it was only their 2nd loss in 6 games. If we expect Renney to punish them after every bad loss its going to be a rough season.
All of that being said, when and if this team makes the playoffs, there will be circumstances like this where a team maybe better rested than the other, or you have to play 2 games in 3 nights. A better effort will be needed then and now.
The Rangers need to do something to get this team going in the right direction, starting with bringing up a 7th defensemen, and firing perry pearn for what he calls a power play. Not to mention, I put alot of blame on him for the Redden signing, since he worked with him for years in Ottawa, and Im sure he thought he would help our powerplay...what a joke

King, I always appreciate your thoughts and I thank you for your compliments on the site.

But you have to realize those are just my opinions on the team not practicing. You're right I'm not a beat writer or analyst which I feel allows me to be brutally honest about the team.

You might not agree with me but I'm still allowed to state my opinion as a Rangers fan. By the way Ranger beat writer Sam Weinman at the Journal News also questioned the Rangers not practicing today. Maybe not Herbies but he did think they should have been out there.

Yes they were coming off a tough physical game against Pittsburgh but that doesn't excuse a poor showing. Plenty of teams play tough back-to-backs and play hard and smart both nights.

I agree with you that driving them into the ground after two hard fought games is a bit much. But do you really think the effort last night was hard fought? Most of the Ranger players didn't.

At the end of the day I'm just a Rangers fan like you who decided to start a Rangers blog to get the news out to other Ranger fans and express my opinions. Nothing less and nothing more. I hope you continue to visit the site.
