Eklund: Rangers In On Lecavalier Talks

Eklund at HockeyBuzz has now lumped the Rangers as one of the teams interested in the suddenly available Vinny Lecavalier (see Lacavalier availability news here).

Eklund's "source" says that the Rangers would need to part with Marc Staal to get it done.

...the Rangers would also need to part with $7.7 million off their payroll for the next seven years to bring him in.

...hey, I just post this stuff.

...actually, I'm interested. If the Rangers could somehow get Lecavalier under the cap, would any of you be willing to part with Staal to bring him in? Post your feeling in the comments section.

Trading a crux, young D man for a 29 year old center with a huge contract? I'm usually for big time trades, but not for Staal. Nope.

Not a chance....the only guys I would not trade on this roster are stall, lundqvist, callahan, dubi and girardi...you can do whatever you want with the rest..

I'd rather see the Rangers not mess with the Vinny talks and try to get Jay Bo...

But as much as I like Staal a talent like Vinny doesn't come available very often. Staal isn't exactly Mike Green and we've got Sanguinetti

What does that mean we have Sanguinetti? He has not played a second in the NHL and already he is the next Brian Leetch? Staal is proven he can play at the NHL Level, is already our best d-man, and is getting better every game on both defense and offense.

I would love to have Vinny on the team, but right now we have no room at center or with the Cap, which means at the very least you have to trade either Drury or Gomez and also some young talent...

No way.... Staal has to stay... D-fense would be so bad w/o him. Maybe if we get another D-man and vinny that may be fine but otherwise noo deal

as much as some people hate Drury and Gomez, the rangers are better off keeping them and working from within, they don't need Vinny, its a stupid idea. Especially if it means trading Staal, who you build a defense around, they need more help on the back end and Sather's priority in the coming weeks should be on trading for a big-ticket D-man like Jovanaski or Bouwmeester or Liles
