Lightning to File Tampering Charges Against Rangers? - **Updated**

Bob McKenzie at TSN reports that despite John Tortorella being given written permission in June by the Lightning to seek employment elsewhere sources say there may have been some potentially "inappropriate" contact between the Ranger organization and members of the Lightning.

McKenzie adds that the league is investigating and that it's not out of the question that the Lightning will file formal tampering charges against the Rangers.

**Update** - TSN now reports this may have something to do with Lightning assistant coach Mike Sullivan, who reportedly has a clause in his contract that he could join Tortorella if Tortorella were to be named head coach elsewhere in the NHL. (Thanks to reader Steve for the heads-up)

...i said this yesterday, with how quick this all went down you have to wonder when Sather starting talking to Tortorella about replacing Renney.

...this will obviously have no effect on Tortorella's status with the Rangers so give Tampa a fourth round draft pick and move on.
