Here's Sather on why he decided to fire Renney...
“I’ve been thinking about it probably the last couple of weeks. I could see the team starting to slide and, after the start that we had at the beginning of the year and the way we were playing and moving and controlling the puck, the game just started to erode and I thought sooner or later we were going to have to do something. I wish that it hadn’t have come to this, but it did. The last two or three games it was pretty obvious that we had tohave something done.”
Carpiniello reports that Tortorella is en route to NY and will take over for practice tomorrow. Jim Schoenfeld will be the interim assistant coach.
Glen Sather said there is no compensation headed to Tampa Bay, and that Tortorella signed a multi-year contract.
Finally, Carpiniello notes that Sather said that Renney is welcome to stay in the organization if he chooses.
...i can't believe how quick this all went down today. I'm sure Sather would say otherwise, but no way today was the first conversation he had with Tortorella about taking over.

i hope renney stays with this team in some capacity, hes been a class act since day one here...on the other hand i would also like to see him behind the bench...in the west so he doesnt burn us
