Messier to Coach Oilers?

Larry Brooks at the New York Post says the firing of Edmonton Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish may open the door for Mark Messier to return to the NHL...

"Now there's Edmonton, where he is revered. Now there's Edmonton, where his bud Kevin Lowe likely will have much influence in hiring Craig MacTavish's successor even if Steve Tambellini is the GM conducting the job search. Now there's Edmonton, where his candidacy surely would receive public support."

Brooks also notes there maybe a front office position available in New York this summer if the Rangers decide to keep Jim Schoenfeld behind the bench, however, it looks like he will return to his executive role.

...i'm sure every Ranger fan would love to see Messier return to the Blueshirts in some capacity. Now it's up to "The Captain" to see what type of role he wants to have in the NHL. Coach or GM? If it's coach he should head out to Edmonton to get on the job training, but if he wants to be an executive he should reach out to Sather to see what's available in New York.
