Rangers 4, Capitals 3 (NYR 1-0)

The New York Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals by the score of 4-3 to take a 1-0 series lead in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal match-up, tonight. For a recap and box score go to Yah00! Sports.

...wow, did the Rangers have no business winning that game. They were out-shot, out-hit and out-played the entire game. But as most experts predicted this series was going to come down to goaltending. And Lundqvist was superb, while Theodore not so much.

...Drury must really be hurting for him not to play tonight. This should concern Ranger fans as we might not see our Captain for a few games.

...which brings me to my next point. Players stepping up in Drury's absence. And man did our top players do that tonight. Goals by Gomez, Antropov, Naslund and Dubinsky.

...speaking of Dubinsky, where has he been hiding that move. Shultz is still looking for his jock.

...2-for-4 on the power play? Really?

...it's not too often you say a penalty kill had a good night after giving up two goals. But they came up big with two kills in the third period to keep it tied.

...what more can I say about Ryan Callahan. The guy did everything but score tonight. The kid is a gamer and I will continue to say he is the team MVP this year.

...with all the fuzzy feelings surrounding the team right now, Ranger fans have to keep things in perspective as the Blueshirts have to win four games to move on. The next chance to move closer to that magic number will be Saturday afternoon back in our Nation's Capital.

Rangers did what they needed to to keep the Caps in check. After being dominated in the first, they came out, frustrated the Caps and found themselves in complete control.

Granted Theodore sucked, but that's not taking anything away from the Rangers. They played a great game, the Capitals played a poor one.

Caps deserved the loss.

If drury can't play in the next game is there any chance someone besides voros could play?? Can Anisimov be called up at this point?

As far as I know they can. If you remember the Rangers brought up Korpikoski for the elimination game against the Penguins last year.

I swear not even a Mack truck could stop Callahan. He keeps going and going and going. And Betts is just phenominal on the PK. Way to go Rangers!

Lundqvist was brilliant. All the hype about Washington's offense and AO was just that. People always forget that goaltending and D is what wins playoff games.

Was at the game last night, here's what I noticed:

Gomez was very solid, especially on the PP. He was carrying the puck and making plays as well as I've seen all year.

Redden, on the other hand, was godawful. He looked even more out of his league than usual. If only he could be out of our league.

Great game by both Betts and Sjostrom, especially on the PK. A few fantastic blocks and clears, even after Sjostrom had his clock cleaned.

IronClad - Glad to hear you got to enjoy the victory last night on enemy turf. What's up with Caps fans tossing trash onto the ice at the end of the game? Do the ppl down there have any class?
