Senators Ask Too Much for Heatley

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports...

"Rangers general manager Glen Sather held a lengthy conversation with Ottawa GM Bryan Murray regarding the Senators’ disgruntled left wing Dany Heatley. However, the reports were that the Rangers believed the Senators were still asking for too much."

A source has also told this information to Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.

...i know Ranger fans are reluctant to trade away players like Staal and Callahan, but this team needs a finisher and it needs one now. And with the Rangers cap situation the only way to get one is to trade a good young player.

As much as I do want Heatley, I'm scared Sather is going to give away the young talent. But I agree a scorer is what this team needs. Hopefully they can work something out.

If Heatley comes to the Rangers there's a big chance he might just sit comfy on his big money contract... Like others before him have done.

I like Heatley, but he's not so good that the Rangers should mortgage their future for him. Although he's racked up some points, he hasn't shown himself to be a player that elevates his team. He would be a great "missing piece" to an already strong team, but he's not the guy you build around. The Rangers can't afford to spend big on another player that they can't build around--whether they're spending money or young players.

I would include Callahan in a deal for him. We have other players who can pick up the slack physically.
