Rangers Done With Zherdev?

Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that Nikolai Zherdev's decision to file for salary arbitration probably means that his first year with the Rangers will most likely be his last...

"Now, with Zherdev seeking a contract believed in the neighborhood of $4.5M, there's little doubt the Blueshirts would walk away from an arbitration award that's even a nickel more than $3.25M, and thus make the 24-year-old winger an unrestricted free agent."

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes wonders if the Rangers don't re-sign Zherdev who is going to replace his 23 goals last season.

...while Zherdev was a complete flop in the playoffs and down the stretch there were long stretches during the season where he was the best player on the team. If the Rangers don't have a plan to replace Zherdev those goals will be sorely missed.

Callahan > Zherdev

I totally agree with Jack. Callahan did way more for the team than Zherdev did with his 23 goals.
