Rangers Still Rumored As Destination For Heatley

Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun gives his five possible destinations for Dany Heatley with the Rangers being one...

2. New York Rangers
GM Glen Sather likes to stick his nose into everything and this is where Heatley really wants to go. The Rangers refused to give up D Marc Staal and C Brandon Dubinsky at the draft for Heatley. They’d have to offer C Chris Drury, but Sather is loath to deal his captain. “The Rangers love players with star power and they could find a way to take on Heatley’s $7.5-million salary. Sather is the type of GM who doesn’t let players like Heatley get away,” said a league executive. With more than $6 million in cap room, the Rangers wouldn’t have to move much.

...it's hard to take any rumors involving the Rangers seriously as they're mentioned in almost every one b/c of Sather's willingness to overpay.

...i'm no cap expert, but I thought the Rangers had a lot less than $6 million available. If anyone knows, please post in comments.

...sorry for the late posts, I had my fantasy football draft today.

Garrioch has no idea what he's talking about. If you put Gilroy in the lineup, the Rangers have around 4.6 mil in cap room, but that only includes 11 forwards and 5 defensemen. No way to get Heatley without moving a major contract.

To obtain Dany Heatley we are going to move a big contract i.e. redden,rozsival..no way sather is trading his captain

I wonder what the Rangers might be capable of with Heatley lineup. I would certainly like their chances more than the team is currently setup.

I wonder if it would be better to move Rosival or Redden. Might be kind of hard to move Redden.

Somewhat off topic, who did you take in your fantasy draft?

I've said this for 3 months now Heatley will be a Ranger in fairly short order now. He has already shown a willingness to invoke his no trade clause so why would anyone doubt he would do it again, its no secret the he wants to play for the Rangers & that Slats covets star players & we need his offensive production up front. Gaborik & Heatley make us instant contenders & also gives us as good of a 1-2 punch as any other team in the game today.

My better picks were Brees, Calvin Johnson, Grant, Roy Williams and Ronnie Brown. I play in a ten team league so everyone usually has a stacked team.

I agree liltedspop. If we can get Heatley and if Gaborik and the rest of the team clicks and everyone does what they are excpected to do we definately are contenders for the cup. I would love to see Heatley in a Rangers jersey this season. I mean I almost had a heart attack when we signed Gaborik I might just fall over if we sign Heatley. I hope we dont get rid of too many young guys. I wouldnt care if Anisimov, Dubi, and maybe Gilroy.

to tell you the truth i'd rather keep Gilroy & move Staal. a deal of Dubinsky, Staal & Rozival for the cap space would be enough to get Heatley & we become a far better team.... People all love Staal I feel Staal will never become an eite player & Gilroy or Heikkeinen , DelZotto & Sanguinetti can fill his shoes.

I really would love to see Heatley in a NYR uniform come October. He and Gaborik together would be beyond deadly....

Dubinsky, Rozsival, McDonagh, 1st round pick for Heatley and Campoli....

Heatley Prospal Gaborik
Lisin Drury Kotalik
Higgins Anisimov Callahan
Avery Boyle Brashear

Redden Gilroy
Staal Campoli
Del Zotto Girardi

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!
