Dubinsky: It's Killing Me; Zherdev Begs Rangers to Take Him Back

Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports on the Brandon Dubinsky contract sega saying...

"It's difficult to envision an end-game to this contractual dispute that will work to the benefit of the 23-year-old unsigned Group II free agent center..."

Dubinsky on not being at training camp...

"It's killing me not to be in camp with my teammates. I feel terrible about it," Dubinsky told The Post by phone.

...you know what, if it was really killing Dubinsky that badly he'd find a way to get something done. I'm not saying this is all his fault but come on man don't tell me you feel terrible when you have the power to end this.

Brooks says that the Rangers on Friday increased their one-year offer from $522,500 to $700,000.

...the last few days I've come down on Dubinsky a little bit for his part in the negotiation process, but after seeing the Rangers offer of one-year $700,000 I think I'm back on Dubinsky's side. That is insulting especially after seeing the money Sather gave to Kolatik and Callahan.

Brooks also reports that former Ranger Nikolai Zherdev called the club this week offering to return for $3.25 million. The offer was refused.

...very sad.

Finally, Brooks says the Rangers are not in active bidding for Boston's Phil Kessel are inaccurate.

...if that's the case, why isn't Dubinsky signed.

Kotalik was a UFA vet and Callahan had arbitration on his side. Why should Sather give Dubi the same leverage when he doesn't have to? Let's not jump to conclusions about Dubi missing camp. Yeah, it'll set him back a bit with the system, but his fitness is not a problem (he was one of the few energetic Rangers in the postseason). Torts rant is one more way the Rangers are applying pressure. They not only have the right, but the obligation to sign him for as little as possible. That's how this CBA works. Young players need to work for bargaining leverage. Dubi doesn't have any. Period.

That's actually a very good point.
