Avery Out Against Pens; Alternate Captains Chosen Not Revealed

Steve Zipay at Blue Notes reports Sean Avery (knee) will make the trip but not play against the Penguins.

...not a surprise, but still sucks.

Zipay also says that Tortorella and the coaching staff have chosen alternate captains but the team won't be told until tomorrow morning's meeting. He did not discuss it with captain Chris Drury....

"I'm not a big believer in votes from a team and all that, it's our responsibility as we've watched them through camp and how they've handled it, how the new faces and young guys approached it."

...i'm still going with Callahan and Staal.

The Rangers will watch the Penguins' pre-game banner raising and Cup ceremony from the visiting bench.

...good I hope it gives them some motivation.

Michael Del Zotto will be wearing #4 this season.

My money's on Callahan and Gaborik. Torts is such a big proponent of "game-breakers," you gotta think he's gonna pin an 'A' on Gabs to bring focus on his position as a team leader on the ice.

Word up. I'm betting on the As going to Callahan and Gaborik as well.

Gotta have Gaborik...and I think 1 Defensemen leader is a good idea - so Staal.
