Lundqvist to Honor Plante's Mask

Michael Obernauer at The Blueshirts Blog reports that Henrik Lundqvist will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Jacques Plante donning the first goaltender's mask by wearing a special edition mask he and Steve Valiquette had made.

The mask is designed with an image of Plante and his mask, the dates “1959-2009,” and a rendering of a ticket stub to that Rangers-Canadiens game - Nov. 1, 1959.

Obernauer says the smart money is that Lundqvist (or Valiquette, whoever is the starter) will wear the commemorative mask next Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Garden against Boston.

Plante wore the mask after taking shot to the face from Ranger great Andy Bathgate.
