Prospal Secret to Rangers Success

Scott Burnside at ESPN.com says despite the strong play of Marian Gaborik and the kids on the blue line, the Vinny Prospal signing has been the most important part of the Rangers success...

"Prospal, who played for Tortorella in Tampa before chasing the money to Anaheim the season the Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004, was out of work when he dropped by a backyard cookout at the Tortorella spread. The coach thought there would be a fit for Prospal with his Rangers, but they didn't have a lot of money to throw around. He asked Prospal if he was ready to play for something other than money."

...good thing Torts throws a good barbecue, or the Rangers would be out an integral part of their team.

Prospal has 11 points (3g, 8a) and is a +7 through eight games this season.

On his relationship with Prospal, Tortorella stated...

"It just seems to work with him and me," Tortorella said. "He has been a huge part to our start."
