Torts: Girardi Assessed His Camp Correctly

John Tortorella told Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants this about Dan Girardi assessing his preseason performance...

"We'll see in the game (but) mentally, he's been honest in his assessment," Tortorella said. "That's the most important thing between coach and player. Coaches need to step in when a player is not assessing their play correctly. I think Danny has assessed his camp correctly. I still have a ton of confidence in this kid, he's going to be a really good player. And I feel much better about it right now because he assessed himself correctly as we've gone through these last couple of weeks."

Gross adds that last season's defense pairing of Marc Staal-Girardi will remain together, at least to begin the season, because John Tortorella wants a tandem he can trust to shut down the opponent's top line(s).

...while Girardi may have had a tough camp, I'm confident that once the puck drops tonight he'll be back to his reliable old self.
