Where's the Outrage Over Hit on Drury?

That's what Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy wonders...

But to speak to the original point: Where's the outrage?

The lack of it for this debilitating hit on a very good player is, we think, twofold:

1. Aesthetics. This isn't a hit that went viral. The available video doesn't provide the gasp-worthy moments of the Mike Richards hit on David Booth or the Rob Scuderi cartwheel check on Jason Chimera. Drury walked woozily to the dressing room instead of leaving on a stretcher. Unfair as it is, it's the difference between a hockey injury and a moment of cultural outrage.

2. Fatigue. Face it, we've been inundated with questionable hits and significant injuries in the first month of the season. Plus, the "hits to the head" debate has reached what Mike Milbury colorfully termed "the point of nausea."

...its a pretty sad commentary when the lack of outrage is based on a bad camera angle.

...if the league wants to send a message that head shots won't be tolerated Bettman needs to suspend Glencross for at least 10 games.

Wyshynski also offers video of the hit...

After seeing the hit several times on replay I think it's an outrage that we don't retaliate. However, I think that the person who was on the ice at the time it happened and who would've done this (Avery) didn't dare to do it. Reason number one is NHL. With him being on probation (for the rest of his career?) not only would he get the instigator but probably a suspension as well just for being Sean Avery. If it would mean a $10K fine for Torts (like in the Byers case)it would probably be the end to his Blueshirt career as well. I'm a big fan of Torts, his coaching and play style but sometimes you need to let the cannons loose. If Avery hit a Flame, blindside like this, he would probably look at retirement while Ovechkin and others are slaughtering people with cowardly hits and slide through. Obviously I'm a Ranger so is it a fair or an unfair hit is irrelevant. He hit your (like you said) bleeping captain!
