Valiquette Clears Waivers; Cap Issues

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants reports that Steve Valiquette cleared waivers today meaning Chad Johnson can now practice with the team.

..its gotten so bad for Vali no one even wants to claim him and his small salary on waivers. Although, he'll most likely not make it through recall waivers.

Gross also reports on a cap issue the Rangers are running into as it appears Wade Redden will not be able to play Saturday night, but with the moves made yesterday will not have enough cap room to bring up Bobby Sanguinetti...

"The quick story on the numbers, though. The Rangers, who reportedly had about $800,000 of wiggle room, did substract Valiquette’s $725,000 but Johnson is on the books for a reported $660,000 and Christensen is at $750,000 so the Rangers must figure out how to squeeze another defenseman onto their roster. The brass is working on that now.

Perhaps the Rangers will have to shed Aaron Voros and his $900,000 salary. Or Brian Boyle at $500,000."

...you can't make this stuff up. Unreal.

Finally, Gross has new line combinations...

Prospal-Anisimov-Marian Gaborik
Avery-Drury-Callahan
Higgins-Christensen-Kotalik
Lisin-Boyle-Parenteau/Voros

...Avery off the top line already?!?!?!?!

...Torts needs to break Drury and Callahan up. That combo has not worked all year.

I think getting rid of Boyle and Voros is only positive for the team. Especially Boyle. Voros' only quality is that he wants to fight..

Your right, an absolute disaster...why did we even trade for boyle? I was intrigued by the trade somewhat early on based on his size and potential, but this is turning into too much a project. Why could they not have gone with someone from the minors?

Let's face it. As long as Sather is running the show this team will always be in salary cap hell.
