Gaborik to Try Morning Skate; Rangers Need to Play Harder

Marc Herrmann at Blue Notes says Marian Gaborik will try to skate in the morning tomorrow at Pittsburgh and make a determination about whether he can play in the game tomorrow night.

On the injury Gaborik told Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants...

“It feels a little better, it’s still stiff and swelled,” said Gaborik. "

“The most important thing is it didn’t get infected,” Gaborik added. “I didn’t get cut on the tendons or the nerves.”

...while Gaborik may miss a couple of games I think the Rangers got real lucky this was't any worse.

Gross also reports on Torts not seeing the correct amount of desperation a playoff team needs...

“We need to play harder,” said Tortorella, agreeing that a playoff spot was still right there for his team to grab. “Yes it is. What level do you have to get to to keep on trying to crawl back into it. It’s going to be a couple of spots for six, seven hockey clubs. That’s still there. You look at the situation we’re in, you can’t drag yourself around. You can’t get too low. There’s still an opportunity. What level do we need to play at to get there?”

...to hear that this team isn't playing hard is a slap in the face to every Ranger fan.

...when the team's not playing hard you have to wonder if they've tuned the coach out.

Zipay has more on the lack of desperation including quotes from Ryan Callahan.

As far as the team playing harder, I've only missed 3 or 4 games this year and I can tell in the first 5 minutes if the team has a chance or not. When the team pushes and works hard, especially on the forecheck, they can beat an elite team like the Devils. When they play soft they will lose to the Islanders.
