Benefit Hockey Game for Girl Waiting for Kidney Transplant

Received an e-mail last night from The New York Rangers Blog reader Matt Lavanca, who played on Archbishop Molloy High School's (Queens) first ever city hockey championship team in 2004 & later coached the team to their second championship in 2008, about a charity hockey game he will be hosting at the World Ice Arena in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park this Sunday, June 13th at 6 p.m.

The game, which will pit the 2004 Molloy champs vs. the 2008 champs, will raise money for Meghan Cross, a six-year-old from Floral Park. New York, who was diagnosed with a disease called Henoch-Schonlein Purpura that has caused both her kidney's to fail and will now need a kidney transplant.

While her parents' health insurance will cover the transplant, what's not covered is the cost of the anti-rejection medications that Meggie will have to take for the rest of her life which will cost about $17,000-$20,000 a year.

There will be a $10 charge at the door and besides the game there will be numerous raffles that include prizes such as Ranger tickets, a signed puck by Marc Staal, Islander tickets, a signed puck by Doug Weight, Mets tickets, and other cool stuff.

For more information check out this Daily News article or you can e-mail Matt at electronicmayheminc@gmail.

...this is a very worthwhile cause and I urge anyone in the area to stop in.
