Former Player Doesn't Believe Sather's Frugal Talk

A few weeks ago Glen Sather told Larry Brooks of the New York Post that the Rangers were not going to overpay this offseason. However, today, Elliot Friedman of CBC Sports has this quote from a former Ranger on Sather's declaration...

"And you believe him?"

...this quote could be from Scott Gomez for all we know but it just goes to show what players around the league think of Sather's out-of-control spending.

...also saw lots of Ranger fans on message boards and blogs with the same feelings as this unnamed former Ranger. What do you guys think? Is Sather going to stick to his word or find a way (send Redden to Hartford) to spend, spend spend.

I honestly don't believe Sather will send Redden to Hartford to free up the space. I just don't see him admitting his mistake like that, even though a similiar thing happened with Kasparitus, his contract was not as over the top. Thus the thing that is really keeping Sather in check is not his inherent frugality, but rather his ego.

Remember when Sather said that if players don't perform then Hartford would have the highest payroll in the AHL? He was full of it then and he's full of it now except for one thing - the overspending. He can't overspend because he has no cap room because of the stupid contracts he gave players like Drury, Redden and Rozsival.
