Kotalik Can't Fathom Why His Ice Time Was Cut

In an interview with Peter Adler at the Edmonton Journal, Ales Kotalik talks about his short time with the Rangers...

“Look, I was looking forward to playing for the Rangers, I felt it was an honour to be their player, and the beginning of the season wasn’t bad, either. I was in the top 25 in NHL scoring at the end of the first quarter of the season, after all. And then, the wheel has turned and my ice-time began going down steadily, and I still can’t fathom why.”

...really Ales? Really? You can't fathom why your ice time was cut? How about scoring just two goals and having a -12 in the 28 games you played before the trade.

...i had a real roller-coaster of emotions with Kotalik as I originally thought the Rangers paid too much for him in the off-season then in the first quarter of the season I thought he was a bargain with how well he was playing and then the wheels fell off and he couldn't get back on track.

...one positive thing from Kotalik is that Sather was able to turn him into Prust.

sounds like he has the same self delusion problem that redden has.

he was just dreadful at even strength and torts said it to the press so i cant imagine why kotalik is saying this. well, good riddance.

i actually liked this guy, i think its an example of torts ruining another player and running a huge double standard (benching the kids and not holding any vets accountable)

kotalik is hardly a kid so how is that a double standard. he is 31 after all.

and how can you say torts ruined him? it's not like he set the world on fire when he went to the flames. HA! get it? fire? flames?

anywho, 5 points in 26 games after he went to calgary. hardly worth $3 million.

Evan I think you have another career as comedian.

Agree on Kotalik. His struggles began before Torts started benching him. So Torts is no excuse.

i think volchenkov would be a big pick up but i wouldn't wanna see him get more than 4 mil a season.. as for cap issues I especially like the prosepct of the cap raising by 2 million especially considering that would cover the buyout of redden .. a trade of rozival and perhaps grachev for sourray with girardi resigned and Staal would provide rangers the cap space necessary to get some scoring punch. kovy anyone?

doubt they buyout redden which is hefty hit for 8 yrs and at least 2 of the yrs the cap hit is quite large. approx 2 mm per yr except 3.4 mm in 3rd and 4th yr

souray for rozy does not help cap. in fact slightly hurts it and they both have 2 yrs left. to throw grachev into that one seems very unlikely and unnecessary
