Rangers Not In On Horton Trade Talks

Larry Brooks tweets...

Unless there has been a dramatic change within last hour, Rangers are NOT in on Nathan Horton talks....less than a minute ago via web

Horton has three years left on a six-year, $24 million contract extension. His no-trade clause kicks July 1.

Horton finished second on Florida with 57 points (20 goals) this past season despite missing 17 games with a broken leg. His goal totals have declined each season since a career-high 31 in 2006-07.

...can't imagine Sather didn't put a call in. But you have assume the asking price was probably more than Sather wanted to give up. Especially when the Predators were asking for prized prospect McDonough in exchange for the much older Arnott.

...plus unless the Rangers were shipping Drury, Redden or Rozsival back to Florida they couldn't exactly afford Horton anyway.

considering how young we are making this team... how long do you think it will take until the Rangers will be contenders?

no surprise here, players on this team fall into two groups: untouchable, and untradable.

chris, that is such a great point.

Anonymous (name please), I give this team three to fours before they become serious contenders.

At that point Stepan, Kreider, McDonough, Werek, Gratchev, etc. should all be on the team with at least a year of experience.

It will also be the final years of Gaborik and Lundqvist's contracts (Redden also) so they'll be playing hard for a new deal.

such a joke

Sather just uses the excuse that there is no cap room and he is going with youth, so he doesnt have to do ANYTHING.

he can sit around with a free pass for the entire summer, while other teams attempt to improve themselves

what an embarrassment.

anonymous, trust me im no sather fan but i dont object to him doing "nothing." The only trade chips he has are draft picks, dubinsky, and girardi. Brian Burke is proving in toronto why you dont trade 1st rounders and i wouldn't give dubinsky or girardi up unless the right deal comes along. Obviously we'd all prefer to not have redden and drurys cap hit, but we do and panicking to just get a trade done is probably the worst thing possible. He's building a solid core and should continue that.

Just to add to what Chris said, Sather is not getting a pass for not being able to make moves b/c of cap space. It's 100% his fault and every Ranger fan knows it.

This team needs a top line center not another oft injured winger, not to mention Horton has been a distraction on & off the ice his entire career, no thanks I'll happily pass. Interesting rumor floating is the Rangers would deal Dubinsky, Grachev, Girardi our 1st. & 2nd. rd. picks this year to Boston for Savard, Wideman & the 2nd overall pick. I heard this rumor over the weekend & again on thefan590 in Toronto yesterday & it makes sense for both teams the Bruins need to clear cap space to pay Chara next season they would hold 4 pick in the top 40 of this very deep dradft & we would be getting a # 1 center a defensmen who can clear the crease & a future star.

I think we are going to have to live with the fact that the next couple of seasons will be in a holding pattern regarding trades due to cap space :(

How high was Sather to pay Drury (who I like) & Redden all that money!!??
