Boogaard Was Offered 4-Year $7 Million Deal from Oilers

Arthur Staples at Newsday reports a source that says Derek Boogaard had a four-year, $7-million offer on the table from the Oilers.

...i know Boogaard was the guy Sather was targeting as the Rangers next tough guy, but if another team sets the market way to high on the guy it doesn't mean you have to pay it.

...it's called Plan B. Let the other team take that outrageous cap hit.

He is the bigeest and one of the toughest in the league...the teams looking to sign him were all offering about the same amount of money......
The reason everyone (Kevin) has a problem is because of all the shitty contracts that all already on the roster and holding us back in free agency....

Just because the Redden,Rozival, Drury, Brashear, and Voros contracts kill us doesnt make the the Boogie mans contract bad!!

You know Kevin I know you run this web site & I think its the best I've seen. But enough of the anti-Sather rants ok. The guy paid what Boogaard is worth he is the best at what he does in the game today. I am totally disgusted with everyone blasting every single move we make due to past bad deals Sather has signed these guys to. When Redden was signed no one was complaining then, but the guy is washed up was it a horrible deal in hindsight yes it was, is it killing us cap wise yes it is. I for 1 think we needed this guy & he is 10 times the intimidation factor the Jodi Shelley ever was. How about we all try something novel & support Sather rather than destroying the guy for every move he makes.

While I don't like to bash Glen, It's kinda hard not to LTP. He isn't as horrible as everyone makes him out to be but he tends to give players more money than they deserve which makes our team suck more because we cant spend money on the players that can help us. You are right, but It's hard not to be upset with him as a fan. Fans are fanatics and we want to see a good product and we want to win, and our nature leads us to get very upset when that dosen't happen and we can correlate that to overpaid players who our GM signed.

LTP, sorry you feel that way. I definitely try to be subjective.

Recently, I've been talking up how I love the direction of the team, that Sather trades very well and the Rangers drafting has been awesome lately.

And if you've read my comments about the Boogaard signing I've said I liked the signing just in my opinion it's too much money considering the cap restraints the team is under.

And just because I like things now doesn't mean I should let Sather off the hook for previous mistakes that have hamstrung this team for years.

Having said that I appreciate the comment and will review my negative tone towards Sather.

oh boogaards contract is bad. might be good fighter but can't play anything close to regular shift. so he gets 5 min/game. shelley thrived in a role where he played quite a bit more than that.

it won't take long b4 many of us are looking forward to end of boogaards contract or talking about buyout or hartford for him.

and why do people omit avery when talking about killer contracts. he is not wortht he 2 mm we are paying him - never mind the 4 mm in total

and re redden. myself and it seems like at the time 90% of the comments i read bashed the redden signing the moment it was signed

sather. 10 yrs. not once having home ice in a playoff series. won 2 playoff series. epic fail.

Every Ranger fan killed the Redden deal!!!!!

LI Joe----Avery is worth every penny of that 2 million..
At this point the guy is being handcuffed by the league and Torts, and cannot play his game to the fullest....He seemed pretty damn good when we brought him her from LA and again from Dallas.....Check out the Rangers record prior to last season when Avery was in the lineup, compared to being out of the lineup!!!

Sathers killer contracts have been, Redden, Rozival, Brashear, Voros, Rismiller, Kotalik, Drury, Gomez to name afew in the last 2-3 years....

Drury was commanding top $$$ after big years with Buffalo, and unfortuatley doesnt put up the 30 goals we wanted for the $$$, but kills hmself otherwise.
Gomez and Kotialik Sather traded his way out of...the rst are just big money for bad players way past their prime or never had a prime!!!

disagree on sean avery - last yr the team did better without him than with him.

rissmiller was on the rangers for what a couple of mos at an annual rate of 1 mm. hardly killed the rangers cap.

kotalik 1/2 a season and rangers got out of that as well

drury 1st 2 yrs did score 20-25 not worth the salary but not awful either considering he killed penalties won faceoffs blocked shots etc. last yr he fell off in part due to 3rd concussion and coming off injury at end of prev yr in hand/wrist. so we'll see where he goes this yr

redden i agree with you 1000%/ his is the real killer contract.

none of these guys here more than 3 yrs so far-except rozy and early yrs for him he was making much less. sather here 10 yrs. so real issue is sather/dolan and the complete and utter falure at draft table - not counting last 3 yrs since too early to judge.
