Rangers Have $9.75 Million Left Under Summer Cap

Larry Brooks tweets...

Rangers currently have approx $9.75M available under summer cap, need to reserve $5M+ in case of offer sheet to Staal...less than a minute ago via web

According to Capgeek, the Rangers actual open cap space is $4,440,833. Teams are allowed to be 10% over the cap during the summer.

...for all the rumors going around about potential Ranger trades and signings, I can't see them doing much with the lack of cap space and impossible contracts to move.

For all the ragging on Sather at least admit he's good with trades and unloading...so here's hoping he can work some magic in a trade once the season starts.

There's no doubt the man can make a trade. Unfortunately, most of them are to make up for a terrible signing.

watched "the boys on the bus" documentary about the 80's oilers the other night when they showed it on MSG and the one thing that really stood out in my mind from it was when it was mentioned that sather's #1 policy is to change over at least 15% of the roster every offseason... That makes no sense to me, why change over that large a portion of the roster for no reason other than just to do it. It also seems like sather enjoys making dumb signings to convince people he's the worst GM in the game and then dumping those players on another team 2 years down the road just to show that there is at least 1 GM worse than him.

15% on a 20 man roster is only 3 guys so that is not that much turnover
