Gaborik Talks Rangers Moves

Marian Gaborik tells newyorkrangers.com what he thinks of the Rangers off-season moves...

On newest Ranger Todd White...

"He can play both very well defensively and offensively," Gaborik said of White. "He's put up a lot of points every year while playing mostly on a second line. I think he's going to be a good fit for us because he's a good skater and he's strong."

On former Derek Boogaard, who he played with in Minnesota...

"I don't think anybody wants to mess around with him. He's the best at what he does," Gaborik said. "He was a help not just for me, but for everybody else on the team. I think Rangers fans will love him, and I think he's going bring a lot. People, especially defensemen, won't want to play against him. When he gets going and he hits somebody, it's scary."

Gaborik also comments on MZA and Alexander Frolov.

...Gaborik seems happy with the offseason moves, which is a good thing.

Can someone explain to me why Erik Johnson just signed for 2.6 mill per year and were going to give Staal 4.5?

On paper Johnson is the better player. 39 points last year to Staal's 27.

$4.5million is a bit much for a kid still cutting his teeth.

lol at the anonymous islander fan. at least if youre gonna invade a rangers blog say something silly like that.

hopefully these moves gets staal signed quicker.

Charlie: Because Staal gets to compare his value to the other inflated contracts on the Rangers, instead of normal, market-value contracts agreed to by other teams. He can argue to Sather, "look at what you are paying Rozsival and Redden, and I am much better than them."

The ramifications of Sather's idiocy are endless.

Gaborik says we are in good shape? What did you expect him to say as White is added to the ever increasing list of 3rd liners. Did you expect him to say a 35 yr old with two bum knees and a repaired surgical shoulder that might be cleared for contact come camp time is a positive move? Granted Frolov is a good move if you consider it not a reclamation project. Same as Kotalik and Jokinen and Higgins and Andropov.

comparisons between rfas and ufas salary wise are not allowed. not in negotiations and not in arbitration. teams can talk about a lot of comparables in salaries and stats but comparisons with ufas not allowable.

the brash deal was good just to get his cap hit off the books as an older than 35 guy. so if white does not work out he can easily be sent down and we save the whole brashear cap hit.
