Rangers & Smith Back Together?

Mitch Beck at the Howlings reports on who may be the Rangers new ECHL affiliate and says the most likely team is ex-Ranger GM Neil Smith’s Greenville Road Warriors.

"If an announcement is forthcoming, it’s likely to be at the end of this month and no later than the first week in September. Then it will be up to Smith and his staff to really go to work to make this thing fly. Given his understanding of the business and his ability to get things done, I’d expect Smith to turn this one around pretty quickly."

...things fell apart pretty quickly for Smith and the Rangers after 1997, but he put together a Stanley Cup winning team then an Eastern Conference finalist so the guy know how to put together a winner. It will be nice to see Smith involved with the organization again.

...and to my trolling Islander fans. Did your team really fire Smith after less than a month to replace him with your backup goaltender? How's that working out for you guys?
