Schoeny Says Youngsters Will Be Given An Opportunity

Rick Carpiniello at the Rangers Report recently sat down with Rangers Assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld about the youngsters getting a shot to make the big club...

“There are some—and I always hate to name names because you’re going to forget some—but quickly, like, Stepan, Grachev, McDonagh, that are going to come to the big camp and we hope they challenge for a job. Whether they make New York or wind up in Hartford, they’re going to be given an opportunity to earn a spot. If one of them does, coming out of the gate, or if it takes a couple of months of development, because it’s a big gap from college or junior, then we’re an improved organization.”

Lots of great stuff from Schoeny definitely check the entire interview out.

...how sweet would it be if two or three prospects are on the opening night roster?

Do we really believe that the youngsters will get a look this training camp? We hear it every year.
Lets see:
Goalies are taken care of with Henrik and Biron.
I see our defense as being a place where only Mcdonough, as a youngster, has a shot. I would love to see Garnet Exelby get a long look. The guy hits everyone. And hits them hard!
we have Del Zotto, Staal, Girardi and Rozsival. Eminger will make the team. That leaves one spot open. Redden and McDonough. Seems like an easy decision. Get Redden out of here.

I will tackle the forwards in anouther post.
