Joe DeLessio at New York Magazine wonders with Wade Redden exiled to Hartford who are Ranger fans going to pick on now and lists Michal Rozsival, Chris Drury, Derek Boogaard and Alex Frolov as the top contenders.
Here's DeLessio's thoughts on why Rozsival is leading the pack...
Michal Rozsival. Far and away the leading contender, Rozsival heard it as bad as Redden did at times over the past two seasons. Why? He's a $5 million cap hit, and since signing his new contract in 2008, his offensive numbers have plummeted while his "pucks bouncing over his stick at the blue line" totals have risen. In his defense, he wasn't always so unpopular. He was liked just fine back during the Jaromir Jagr era, when he posted a +35 in the season after the lockout and put up 40 points the year after that.
...of the four players DeLessio mentions I agree that Rozsival is the leading candidate. If he struggles out of the gate he has no chance of eluding the wrath of the Garden Faithful.
...however, I do think that Boogaard is definitely not that far behind. If he doesn't get into a few scraps right away or god forbid loses one he will be dubbed Brashear Part II in a New York minute.
