Kennedy Assigned to Hartford

Newyorkrangers.com reports that Tim Kennedy has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants adds that Kennedy is now eligible for re-entry waivers, meaning another team could claim him for $275,000, with the Rangers on the hook for the other half of his salary.

...this move is more baffling than Torts going with Eminger to start the season. Not only is Kennedy a younger, better player his cap hit is much less than White's. What is going on?

...there is also no way Kennedy is clearing waivers if the Rangers try to recall him. Just really confused.

While it is true that Kennedy is the better player, you've got to think of the intangibles. Perhaps White is a great presence in the locker room. It's obvious that Kennedy wouldn't see too much ice time except in the event of even more injuries. I expect he'll spend the season in Hartford.

I know a die-hard Buffalo fan who said the Kennedy definitely has a lot of potential. Even expert analyzers say the pick up was a steal for the Rangers. If we can get him to Hartford for a year and allow him to develop, that would be phenomenal . But like you said Kevin... someone is bound to claim him for such a low price

Agree, there was no way Kennedy was going to crack the lineup and maybe the NYR's didn't want to lose him at the present time. Who knows what is in the works on future trades, but his stock is still an attractive commodity.

Kevin,
Where did White come in here??
Kennedy was moved for Cpt'n Drury.

kennedy can only be claimed on 1/2 price waivers if we try to bring him back. and that is pro rated so it would only be for balance of season at that point.

so might be a gamble worth taking in march unless hartford needs him for a decent run in playoffs which will help those guys development

Andy, I would rather White be assigned than Kennedy.

I think White will have an easier time clearing re-entry waivers than Kennedy.

The only way I endorse this is if the Rangers plan on keeping Kennedy down in Hartford all season.

I'd hate to see them lose a young talented player on re-entry.

but white is much more expensive on reentry. they might try kennedy in 2nd half of season but would not do the same for white as far as reentry

Why did they even bring this kid? Could they have soured on him early? Tort's is an asshole. Like he said "I am not that good of a coach to tell you that, I will look at the tape...huh?

I've heard the same thing from Sabres fans, that Kennedy was fun to watch, had an edge and had some potential. The one pre-season game I went to he stood out for sure. Weird.

I don't think it's a matter of Kennedy being good or not. I just think there isn't room for him at this point. White is obviously an extra forward to use in case of injuries. We already have Dru returning and Prospal in the back waiting for a return that might never come. But even if Prospal never makes it back, White is still the odd man out. Hell with Dru and EC he's the odd man out. If he does make it back then Torts has to make a call on sending him down or keeping three extra forwards. If you take the opening night lineup plus Dru and Prospal you end up with 14 forwards. Add in White and you've got 15. I think that's a bit excessive for the long run. White is only sticking in the NHL because of Prospal's injury. Not to mention the veteran presence can't be measured.

My vote is for letting Kennedy get some ice time in the AHL instead of sitting in the press box. Besides it'd be cool if the Wolf Pa—I mean Whale could bring home the Calder.

Good points Ryan, but the Rangers could easily find ice time for Kennedy in games where Boogaard will not be needed. Which looks like it may be a lot since Torts doesn't seem to have much faith in him after watching the Boogie Man only played a minute and change against the Islanders.

This kid deserved a chance. Get that idiot Boogard out of the lineup.

Kennedy is younger and deserves to play regularly, him gathering dust is more detrimental than White. Thats the story with him. However, I agree that its foolish because he might be recall-waiver eligible, whereas White definitely is and could get scooped on recall. However, I don't understand why they don't just cut White and be done with it.
